Beckelman/Sutton Education Scholarship
Lelia and Lee Beckelman established this renewable scholarship for students with financial need who desire to become a teacher and/or a coach.
Lee received his B.B.A. in Finance from the University in ‘88. Lelia received her Bachelor’s in Journalism in ‘88. Lee was a linebacker for the Texas Longhorns football team and both his parents (Dan and Irene Beckelman) became teachers. Both Dan and Irene are also graduates of the
University (‘64 B.S. Secondary Education and ‘62 B.A. in the school of Liberal Arts, respectively). Lee grew up in Tarrant County where his parents taught for their entire careers. Lelia grew up in Montgomery County and her sister, Shelia Sutton, is a public-school teacher and graduated from the University in ‘89 with a B.S. in Secondary Education (specialization in English and Communication). Lelia and Lee have been active supporters of the McCombs School of Business, The Longhorn Foundation, and the UT Chancellor’s office. This scholarship is in honor of Dan Beckelman, Irene Beckelman, and Shelia Sutton, all who dedicated their life’s work to education in the public school system.
