Friends of Darrell K Royal Forty Acres Scholarship
Darrell K Royal is the winningest football coach in University of Texas history and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. Serving as head coach of the Texas Longhorn football team from 1957 to 1976 and Director of UT Intercollegiate Athletics from 1962 to 1980, Royal is an iconic and beloved figure to all Longhorn fans. After retiring from coaching, he served as special assistant to the University president on athletic programs. In 1996, the University honored him by renaming Texas Memorial Stadium to Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. He received the Texas Exes Distinguished Service Award in 2006.
In 1982, Royal was honored by friends and admirers with the Darrell Royal Fund to benefit students associated with varsity athletics. The fund was integrated with the Forty Acres Scholars Program to create full-ride, merit scholarships to help bring the most talented undergraduates in the nation to the University of Texas at Austin.
