Kim D. Wheless
Life member Kim D. Wheless established this scholarship in honor of his parents, Joyce and Chester Wheless. Kim Wheless is one of Joyce and Chester Wheless’ 3 sons. All 3 brothers grew up in Corpus Christi and then attended and graduated with BBA degrees from The University of Texas at Austin. Kim was inspired to attend the University due to his parents’ strong allegiance to it- both attended in the late 30’s and early 40’s. Chester graduated in 1941 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering and then pursued a successful career in the oil and gas industry. Kim entered the banking industry in Houston in 1971 after also obtaining an MBA at Texas A & I University in Kingsville, TX (later renamed Texas A&M University, Kingsville). While Houston became “home,” Corpus Christi was always his “home town” – in later years he and his wife built a home in Kerrville, TX, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, and this became his “second home.”
